BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING

NEW PROJECTS IN VIEW.

At a meeting of the committee of the Masterton Beautifying Society, held in the Municipal Buildings, the Society's activities for the coming season were discussed. The annual pruning of street trees was authorised, and will not be such a heavy undertaking this year, as the trees received a particularly careful overhaul last season. A number of trees in various streets will also have to be replaced, but in two streets, owing to the absence of any protection in the way of footpath kerbs and against vandalism, it was thought inadvisable to make any replacements. The Society has several new projects in view, which will be of great benefit to the town, and the public will be informed when arrangements in these directions have been finalised. The committee granted Mr H. M. A. Major leave of absence from the position of treasurer of the society, and Mr S. V. Playsted was elected as actingtreasurer in his place. The chairman. Mr E. W. Payton. expressed the Society’s regret at losing the services temporarily of such an enthusiastic member as Mr Major, and wished him the best of luck in connection with his military duties.
