SOLDIERS HONOURED / — DANCE IN ANZAC HALL. (“Times-Age" Special.) Between 300 and 400 people attended the weekly dance in the Anzac Hall on Saturday night. Miss Card and Mrs C. J. Carlyon were the hostesses. Udy's orchestra supplied the music, and Mr G. Hyland and Mr Chas Buck, were the M.'sC. During the evening the president of the Patriotic Society presented about 30 soldiers of the Third Echelon, and the special company with an envelope each. On behalf of the soldiers Lieut D. Riddiford suitable returned thanks for the gifts. Miss Brenda Bloxam sang "Wish Me Luck." while Mr Irwin sang "There’ll Always be an England." Both songs were encored. The Featherston Ladies' Zone were responsible for the supper arrangements.

Unverricht, W. Keating, T. Rasmussen, R. Buick. Personals. The friends of Mr F. E. (“Ted”) Merlet will regret to hear that he has had to enter the Greytown Hospital for treatment. He is suffering from a severe attack of pneumonia. Mr J. Kirby and Mrs A. Lawson, of Wellington, were weekend guests of Mr and Miss Card, “Awahau.” Mrs Lomas and Miss Barbara Lomas, Ngaio, spent the weekend with relatives in Featherston. Miss Mary Hector, Palmerston N„ is on a visit to her father, Mr I. Hector, Pahautea. Sapper W. Bargh is visiting relatives in Dannevirke, Mrs G. Warrington, Pahautea, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mr A. McGuinness, who is undergoing treatment in the Masterton Hospital, is progressing slowly towards recovery. Winner of Competition, Mrs Newman, Karori, was the winner of the pin cushion guessing competition drawn last week. Smoke Concert. On Thursday night the Returned Soldiers entertained the local members of the Third Echelon and the special force at 'a smoke concert. There were about 80 present, including 19 soldiers in uniform. Mr H. Lawson proposed the toast of the King, and later “Absent Friends,” which was followed by a song by Mr K. H. Allen. Other toasts were: “Our Guests,” Mr E. S. Hayes Lieut. D. Riddiford; “Parents of our Guests,” Mr N. C. C. Shepherd—Mr D. H S. Riddiford; "The British Empire,” Mr Halpin. Mr J. Buck presided at the piano. _____
