OBITUARY
MR FRANK MASON. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital on Friday evening of Mr Frank Mason, of Morison’s Bush. The late Mr Mason, who was 52 years of age. had been in charge of the waterrace works in the Morison’s Bush for some years. He fought in the Great War and was a member of the Greytown Branch of the Returner Soldiers’ Association. He leaves a widow but no family. The funeral which took place at Greytown on Saturday was largely attended. A short service was held at the Presbyterian Church by the Rev. H. Bloomfield, and Mr J. W. Herod spoke of the great respect the Diggers had for their late comrade. The coffin was covered with the Union Jack. The pall-bearers were Messrs F. Snell, W. H. Lyster, G. Allen, J. Garrity, A. Butler and J. Barr. Wreaths were received among others from the Greytown Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Featherston County Council.
Personal Items. Mrs H. C. Trotman and her daughter June, left today for Christchurch, where they will spend three weeks’ holiday. Miss Dulcie Rees spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs Jack Rees, McMaster Street, Greytown. Mr J. B. Thomson, of Wellington, was the guest of Mr and Mrs A. Johnson, Main Street, at the weekend. Corporal and Mrs T. Jackson, of Oamaru, are the guests of Mrs J. M. Jackson, Main Street. The South Wairarapa Working Men s Club entertained a party of soldiers from the Third Echelon on Saturday afternoon. On behalf of the Club Mi W. Grigg (president) presented Corporal Eastwood and Privates B. Rhodes. H Keltic and T. Bensemen with a money belt each. Cigarettes were also presented to the visiting soldiers. Musical items were rendered by Messrs S. Te Tau, V. Boyd, J. Thompson and C. Morris. Euchre Party. The Greytown Returned Soldiers will hold a'euchre party and dance at the Morison's Bush Hall on Wednesday evening. The general public are cordially invited to attend. Table Tennis. At the fortnightly buttons tournament held by the Methodist Ping Pong Club the winner were Miss M. Carter and Mr M. Hobson. The runners up I were Miss N. Keltic and Mr V. Gates.
