ENJOYABLE SOCIAL
TWO PRESENTATIONS. Eketahuna County Council employees attended in full force at the Forester's Hall when a social was tendered to two of their fellow workmates. Private B. Lobban. of the Third Echelon and Mr S. Daniel who has accepted a position with the Borough Council. The engineer. Mr W. C. Duffill, presided and a pleasant time was spent. The health of Private Lobban was proposed by Mr Duffill. He assured Private Lobban that wherever he went he would carry with him the best wishes of his fellow-workers for a safe return to New Zealand. On behalf of the staff he then presented Private Lobban with a gold-mounted fountain pen as a small token of esteem. Mr J. Ammundsen then asked Mr Daniel to accept a gold-mounted fountain pen and wished him good luck in his new work. During his long association with the County staff, Mr Daniel had proved a good worker, and his services in connection with the social life of the staff would be sadly missed.
Both recipients were accorded musical honours, after which they briefly returned thanks for the good wishes and the gifts. Other toasts honoured were “Outside Staff” (Mr W. N. Richardson—Mr A. Ramsay); “Inside Staff” (Mr Hurford—Mr Richardson), “The Ladies,” and “The Press.” Much appreciated vocal items were rendered during the evening by Messrs A. Ramsay, W. Steer, V. Payne, J. Duncan and J. Ammundsen.
The function concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, and the National Anthem.
