SOCIAL AT BELVEDERE
TENDERED TO PRIVATE KENNEDY. The Belvedere school was packed on Saturday evening when the residents of Belvedere and district gathered to do honour to a resident of the district who is on leave, Private N. Kennedy. Dancing. interspersed with musical items, was enjoyed to excellent music played by Miss Elsie Daysh (piano), assisted by her father on the piano accordeon. A much appreciated extra was played by Mrs Hoffell. Mr W. E. Knowles was an efficient M.C. Songs were rendered by Mr A. E. Hall, and a tap dance by Miss Beryl James. Mr A. H. Calliser, in the course of an appropriate speech, said that the settlers of the district were proud that they had a representative such as Private Kennedy, in the New Zealand Forces.
Mr A- E. Reid ■ presented Private Kennedy with an engraved wristlet watch, which was suitably acknowledged by the recipient. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district and was handed round, after which dancing was resumed until midnight. Hockey. On Saturday in a third grade game between Carterton and College B, which resulted in a win for Carterton by 13 goals to nil, most of the goals were shot by Fitzgerald, an exceptionally clever young player. Mr Les Gallon controlled the game. Golf. There was no golf games played by the men on Saturday. A game for the Hill and Hughes Buttons at the weeken between Fisher and Harrington (holders), and Hart and Riggs (challengers), was won by the former by 4-3.
