GATHERING AT DALEFIELD PRESENTATION TO SOLDIERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Dalefield Hall on Saturday night two local soldiers belonging to the Third Echelon were entertained. Notwithstanding the wet night there was a large attendance of Dalefield and Matarawa residents. besides visitors from other parts of the Wairarapa. Dancing was indulged in to music provided by Mrs L. Rogers (piano) and Roy Knowles (violin). Mr Dan Jensen officiated as M.C. in his usual efficient manner. Mr H. Murrell played extras. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Hayes and Mr J. Herrick, and a spot waltz by Miss Bubb and Mr Watkins. The ladies of the district with their usual hospitality provided the supper. During an interval in the proceedings Mr. Robert Bassett said that their guests, Sapper O. C. Reid and Private J. F. Corlett, were well known and highly respected in the district. He hoped that they would return from the war as well in health and strength as they were at present. He knew they would prove worthy soldiers from the Dalefield district. As a token of the esteem in which they were held by the residents he asked them to accept a wristlet watch each. The soldiers were given three hearty cheers. Both suitably replied. A very enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mr Frank Sewell. Belvedere Street, Carterton, on Saturday evening, when about 30 friends gathered to entertain Pte J. B. Sewell, who is a member of the Third Echelon, and also to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of Mr F. Sewell, Junr. The time was spent in community singing. Supper was provided and Mr F. Sewell. Junr, on behalf of the family asked Pte J. B. Sewell to accept a signet ring, and wished for him a safe return from the war. Pte Sewell also received a money belt, wallet, another signet ring, cigarettes and diary. Pte Sewell suitable replied.
