GALLANT SEAMEN

TORPEDOED TANKER TAKEN INTO PORT. ATTACKING U-BOAT FORCED TO SUBMERGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 10. The gallantry of five sailors brought an unnamed British tanker safely to port. A U-boat torpedoed the tanker, which listed heavily. The captain ordered the crew to the boats, but remained aboard with four others. They made their way through wreckage to the valves, and brought the tanker to an even keel.

The submarine thereupon started shelling, but the sailors manned their gun and forced the U-boat to submerge.. The remainder of the crew were picked up and the voyage was continued.
