SUNDAY CONCERT
OPERA HOUSE LAST NIGHT
IN AID OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS
EXCELLENT PROGRAMME PRESENTED.
There was a large and appreciative audience at the Masterton Opera House last night when an excellent concert was presented by local artists under the auspices of the Municipal Band.
Mr W. L. Butler announced that the concert was held in aid of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund and as a result of the effort £l4 Is had been raised.
The programme was as follows: — “God Defend New Zealand” and “Sussex by the Sea,” Municipal Band: items by Frank Pool's Blue River Dance Band; lightning sketches by Zara (Mr T. Ray); song, “The Holy City,” Mrs Moss; sketch, “Services Unrendered.” Masterton Savage Club; “Chopin’s Fifth Nocturne,” violin solo by D. Tagg; humorous monologue by C. Baynes: tap dance and acrobatic dance by Noelinc Graham; humorous monologues, “Sam the Recruit” and “The Battle of Hastings" (Stanley Holloway). Gunner Les. Adams; piano accordion items. Miss Jean McKay; items by Pool’s Blue River Dance Band; song. “Toscelli’s Serenade" and “One Day When we Were Young” (Strauss), Miss G. Gaudin; tap duo. Mr and Miss McMullen; piano accordion items, Miss J. McKay; sketch. “Winter Sets In," Masterton Savage Club; violin solo, "La Serenata,” D. Tagg; sketch, “Lost Wallet.” Masterton Savage Club; vocal solos. “Ave Maria” and “Londonderrv Air,” Miss S. Dunbar; song, “Sons of the Sea,” Mrs Moss; humorous items, Mr C. Baynes; sketch, “Unnecessary,” Masterton Savage Club. Mrs J. R. Dickson, L.T.C.L.. was lhe accompaniste. The organisers wish to thank all who assisted with the concert, those who gave free cartage and lent furniture and the ladies vzho provided supper after the performance.
