FEILDING SALE REMARKABLE PRICES FOR MUTTON. KEEN DEMAND FOR CATTLE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, August 9. Remarkable prices were paid for mutton at the Feilding stock sale today an apparent shortage of supplies sending both ewe and wether mutton over the 40s mark. Store sheep were also keen of sale, and store cattle advanced several shillings a head. The fat sheep entry was not particularly heavy, but the quality was excellent. Competition was keen for ewes and wethers, the former making up to 44s 4d. Extra prime wethers made 40s 7d to 41s lOd; prime. 38s 4d to 39s lOd, lighter, 25s 6d to 33s 9d; extra prime ewes, 40s Id to 44s 4d; prime, 35s lOd to 39s lOd; lighter. 25s lOd to 33s 7d; prime hoggets, 29s 7d to 34s 4d; light prime, 27s 4d to 28s lOd; unfinished, 24s 3d to 25s 6d; fat lambs, 24s lOd to 25s lOd.
Hoggets made up the bulk of the store sheep entry and sold freely on a firm market. Two-tooth ewes were also strongly in demand. Best twotooth ewes made 41s to 44s 6d; second grade. 38s; small, 28s 4d to 30s 4d; sixtooth, 35s 6d; good five year, 30s 6d to 33s 6d; others. 20s to 295; four and fiveyear, 31s 6d; good wether hoggets, 22s to 24s 7d; smaller, 16s Id to 21s lOd; best ewe hoggets, ,30s to 32s 6d; others, 28s Id to 28s 6d; srrjall m.s., 14s 6fi.
Yearling Jersey heifers made high prices in the store cattle section, and a few head of station cattle also cleared readily after free competition. Good yearling Jersey heifers made £5 8s to £5 17s; second grade, £4 7s 6d to £4 15s; three-year A.A. steers, best £7 10s to £8 ss; smaller, £6; two-year, £4 10s to £5 Us; two-year A.A. heifers, £5 18s; empty heifers. £5 12s 6d; works cows, £2 17s 6d to £3 15s. Late rates were fully maintained for dairy stock, better quality cows enjoying a strong demand. Good springing heifers brought £9 12s 6d to £11; second quality. £7 to £9; good springing cows £ll 15s to £l3 ss; others, £5 12s 6d to £9 7s 6d.
Beef was again keen of sale, though the supply was fairly large. Good heifer beef made up to about 41s a hundred pounds. Prime oxen sold for £5 12s 6d; lighter prime. £lO 10s to £l2 2s 6d; extra prime heifers. £ll 2s 6d to £l2 12s 6d; medium prime, £8 12s 6d to £9 17s 6d: light. £6 to £8 7s 6d; prime cows, £lO 12s 6d to £l2 7s 6d; light prime. £8 5s to £9 17s 6d; ex-dairy cows, £5 5s to £7 17s 6d; vealers. £2 6s to £4 2s 6d. A fair entry of pigs made good values. Small weaners made 18s 6d; slips, 21s to 255; stores, 35s 6d to 375; porkers, 445.
