TRIAL AT RIOM OPENED
RESPONSIBILITY FOR DEFEAT OF FRANCE. M. LAVAL AMONG JUDGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CLERMONT FERRAND, August 9. Beginning what is described as the greatest trial in French history, nine judges, including MM. Caoux and Laval, were installed at Riom and opened the preliminaries against those allegedly responsible for the defeat of France. Former friends arid former Cabinet colleagues are facing one another as bittei- foes.
The preliminaries may last for several weeks.
