TEMPEST OF WAR
BREAKING ON BRITAIN
CALL ON NATIONAL SPIRIT,
MR LLOYD GEORGE BROADCASTS.
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, August 7.
Mr David Lloyd George, in a broadcast message to the Welsh people, said: "The storm-clouds which have been gathering over our country and her Empire are now assuming a darker and more threatening purple, not- only over our own land but also in many quarters of the globe where the interests of Britain are concerned.
“There is every sign in the firmament that such a tempest as Britain has novel' before encountered is about to break upon her and all she stands for. "If her people are worthy of their forefathers. Britain will pass through this hurricane fearless and erect, and will emerge from its rage mightier, more honoured and more powerful than ever for the good of mankind. “This is a day of agony of little nations. On the Continent of Europe their national liberties and their hopes are being crushed under the terrible iron chains of the Nazi legions. But the three -smaller nations of the British Isles have been taught by their own history that, though the national spirit of a people may be bruised and even temporarily broken, it never dies, for it lives on in the memories, traditions and songs of their native land.'
