LADY GALWAY GUILD
CLOTHES FOR REFUGEES IN BRITAIN. HUNDRED TONS ALREADY DESPATCHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. More than a hundred tons of clothing have already been despatched to Britain for refugees under the collection scheme launched by the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, which recently conducted a postmen's drive throughout New Zealand. There are now more than a hundred branches of the Guild, each with their own subsidiary organisations, and through these flows a constant stream of wearing apparel for sorting, packing and ■ despatch. Mr G. G. Stewart, hon. secretary of the Guild, is now making a tour of various centres, organising the work and seeing that the quality of packing and other matters are standardised. Mr Stewart commented on the high quality of the clothing received. He said that what was especially wanted was warm underclothing for men and children overseas. Shipowners carried the clothing free and always managed to find space when a consignment'was ready. Carrying firms gave their services free, or at half-rates.
