MASTERTON SAVAGE CLUB

On Thursday evening last in the Club Rooms the "braves” of the Hamua Tribe entertained their “wahines” at Ladies' Night. A pleasant and amusing programme was much appreciated by the guests. Past-Chief E. Jenkins installed the Big Chief. V. S. Wilton and Mrs Wilton as Chieftainess after the National Anthem and the Opening Ode. The items included some by the Glee Club (under Savage D. Couper), the orchestra (under Savage C. W Kerry), vocal solos by Savages C. Torr. Past-Chief W. Iggulden. H. Hall (humorous). O. Hemmingsen. D. Couper and J. Connell. A cornet solo (with orchestral accompaniment) by SavageR. Cottle and a ’cello solo by Savage E. F. Wilson were greatly appreciated as was a very funny interlude with : team singing "Kiss Me Goodnight Ser-geant-Major” with appropriate settings. A series of plays and sketches by the Dramatic Club was also welt received. They were "Services Unrendered” (Savages Cottle and Kennedy) “Useless Eustace” i Savages KentJohnston. Flemming and Russell). "Cured” (Savages Price and Flemming). "Change of Name” (Savages Carstens and Coleman). "Inventor’s Dream" (Savages Kent-Johnston. Flemming and Coleman). "Winter Sets In' (Savages Barber and Kennedy). "Story Without Words” (Savages Kent-John-ston and Curtin). "Unnecessary" (Savages Price and Hancock), and "Bravery Or?” (Savages Carstens. Hemmingsen and Curtin). A black-out near the beginning caused by a blown fuse was filled in by anecdotes by Savage R. Russell. After the Closing Ode and "The King." dancing was enjoyed by all. Two very’ welcome guests were PastChief G.P. Clapcott (now Chief of the Manawatu Club' and Mrs Clapcott.
