FEATHERSTON
SOLDIERS’ DANCE A POPULAR GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The popularity of the Patriotic Society's dances for soldiers continues, there being a good attendance on Saturday night. Soldiers were present from Trentham and Tauherenikau as well as several members of the Air Force. Miss Card and Mrs A. R. Robbins were the hostesses. The ladies from the Western Lake zone were in charge of the supper. GOLF On Saturday at Rototawai a mixed stableford was played, the result being:—Miss C. Bargh, 42 points, 1; Mrs Pope, 40 points, 2. Personal items. Miss Crossby was the weekend gues; of Mrs Fairbrother. Private V/. Sadler and Mrs Sadler are visiting Mr and Mrs Sadler, Tauherenikau. Private S. Batchelor, Ngaruawahia, is home on leave. Mr Alan Johns, Palmerston North, spent the weekend in Featherston. Miss Dymes was a weekend visitor to Lower Hutt. Skating Carnival. The skating carnival held on Saturday night was well attended. The prizes were won as follows: —Best fancy costume, Miss Olwyn Clapshaw; Monte Carlo, Miss M. Chaslin and Mr B. Dewer; walk and run, Miss E. Davis; lucky circles, C. Rasmussen and partner. New Water Supply. A start has been made with the new water supply scheme. The contractor is Mr Oldfield, of Hawke’s Bay.
