The final two rounds of both these competitions will be played next Sunday and will also be the qualifying rounds of the championships. The scores of the senior players were higher than was anticipated, although H. W. Feast played very consistently. The two top markers, J. C. Feast and B. Kiernan, were expected to get a lead on the rest of the players. Both these players had putting lapses in the morning round which considerably added to their scores. In the afternoon round J. C. Feast did the first nine holes in the record low score of 32 but lost touch and took 41 for the last nine. B. Kiernan played more consistently and returned the best card of the day. 72. H. B. Bull and W. S. Brice will take a lot of beating in the Challenge Cup, particularly the latter, whose handicap must come down after this competition is over. VITAL STATISTICS RECORD FOR JULY. The vital statistics for July are:-— Births 4, deaths 5, marriages 2. Fainfall. In July the rainfall registered was 296 points compared with 1110 points for 27 wet days in the same month last year. In July this year rain fell on It days. Personal Items. Mr C. G. Bouzaid returned to his home yesterday after having spent several weeks in the Greytown and Masterton hospitals. Miss L. Hill has left n a visit to Wellington. Mr J. W. Tate was a visitor to Greytown at the weekend. Hockey Notes. No games were played locally on Saturday. Both boys’ teams played in Masterton. The Scouts met the unbeaten College A team and again ran them to a fairly close finish—s/3. Greytown has a 2/1 lead at half time but were unable to maintain it. Early in the game they lost the services of I. Trotman through an eye injury and this, no doubt, upset their play somewhat. This is the only team the Scouts cannot head. The juniors travelled with only nine players to meet the Wesley team, the latter winning easily by 9 to 3. Playing with three forwards only, the Greytown team put the Wesley team on defence on many occasions only to be beaten for a goal by inaccurate shooting or especially good play by one Wesley back. Raison, on the right wingput in some good runs, while Keltic and McKenzie worked well together. If anything, Greytown could have created a good deal more advantage for themselves if their two full backs had played further up field to help their halves more and put their opponents off-side. A new recruit to the game did very well indeed. Reception to Soldiers. The Greytown Patriotic Committee will hold a dance in the Town Hall on Wednesday at which a reception will be tendered to members of the third echelon.
