GOLF CONTESTS WEEK-END RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The best cards returned in the four ball Bogey competition held by the local club were as follows: —G. George and B. Beaven 4 up, D. Taylor and C. Callender, 3 up; D. Taverner and F. Barr, all square; J. Steel and H. Jackson. 1 down; G. Riggs and R. Roydhouse, 1 down. Smith and Hart (holders), lost the Hill and Hughes buttons to Fisher and Harrington, 1 down. School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School committee will be held tonight. Carrington Rainfall. Mr J. A. Roberts, of Carrington, reports that the rainfall for July was as follows: —Rainfall on 16 days, the heaviest fall being on July 5, when .84 inches fell. The total for the month was 4.29 inches, and the rainfall so far this year is 25.76 inches. Entertainment of Soldiers. The Carterton Committee for the entertainment of soldiers is sparing, no effort to make the social to be held in the King’s Theatre on Friday evening the success it deserves to be. Members of the Carterton Savage Club, whose entertainments are always enjoyed, will provide a first-class programme. The Dairy Season. Within the next week practically all the cheese factories will have started operations for the current season. The Dalefield factory will open tomorrow morning, when it is expected there will . he anArrease in the milk supply. Pre;'"parabSL> have been made in all factories throughout the district to handle the extra milk supply that will be forthcoming. Magistrate’s Court.' The monthly sitting of Carterton S.M. Court will be held on Wednesday afternoon next. King’s Funeral Service. The old established funeral direction service which has been operated in Carterton and district over a long period of years by Mr D. T. King, has been taken over by the Wairarapa Joinery . and Cabinet Company Ltd., Broadway. The firm is erecting a small chapel and offices close to the joinery factory. In an announcement on page one the firm notifies that arrangements entrusted to them will be carried out with promptness and efficiency. The latest model funeral coach is available for service. The telephone numbers are: Day, 256; day or night, 28 or 272. Late Mr A. Daysh. There was a large attendance of old identities and residents of the district at the funeral on Saturday afternoon of the late Mr Alfred Daysh, of Carterton. The service at the residence and that at the Clareville cemetery, where the interment took place, was conducted by the Ven Archdeavon E. J. Rich. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers and others. Messrs W. Maisey, A. B. Card, O. Daysh, S. A. Phelps, L. E. Phelps and W. Sage were the pallbearers.
