RUGBY FOOTBALL
ARMY v. WAIRARAPA. AT MASTERTON ON SATURDAY NEXT. The following players are requested to attend practice at Carterton on Wednesday evening next after which the Wairarapa team to play the Army at Masterton next Saturday will be chosen:—Backs: R. Brunton, E. Thompson, W. Petersen, G. Brown, T. Wilton, D. Faulknor, F. Fitzgerald. G. Colquhoun, L. Reiri. Forwards: W. Stringfellow, J. Fitzpatrick, I. Percy, Mathieson (2). D. Smith, G. Humphrey, T. Hood, H. Ewington, R. Howard. Any player absent without excuse will not be considered in the selection of the team. The Army team will arrive in Masterton by mail train on Saturday morning and will be quartered at the.* Empire Hotel during their stay, leaving again for Trentham on Sunday morning by rail-car at 8.30 o'clock. Managed by an officer, the party will number twenty and will be entertained on Saturday night. The Wairarapa College Pipe Band will give their services on the day of the game. Mr W. Grantham has been appointed referee for the game which starts at 2.30 p.m. Weather permitting a lower grade game will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Army game. The whole of the profits, after paying the Army transport and hotel expenses, will be donated to the National Patriotic Fund. All club games, with the exception of the curtain-raiser, will be postponed next Saturday to enable players to see the Army team in action.
