SKI-ING

!NTER=CLUB CONTESTS HELD AT MT HOLDSWORTH YESTERDAY. EXCELLENT TIMES RECORDED. The races were run over a slalom course of approximately GOO yards, the starting place being on top of the ridge west of the plateau. Ski-ing conditions were poor, owing to the icy condition of the snow, and a heavy mist. Light snow fell during the events. The clubs competing were: The Hutt Valley Tramping Club. Tararua Tramping. and Aorangi Ski Club. The Wairarapa Tramping Club was unfortunate in being unable to secure a full team. The men’s slalom championship resulted: A. R. Wilson (Tararua), 2min 6 3-10 sec, 1; F. Akhurst (Hutt Valley), 2.61, 2; B. Bibby (Aorangi), 2.35 3-5, 3; I. L. Powell (Hutt Valley), 2.39 3-10. 4. The teams race for the Powell-Mabin Cup was won by Hutt Valley Tramping Club, with Aorangi Ski Club second. The Tararua Tramping Club was disqualified owing to one of its members failing to finish the course after a .heavy fall. The women’s championship resulted as follows: Mrs E. Akhurst (H.V.T.C.) 4min 3 7-10 sec, 1; Miss M. Broughton (T.T.C.), 4.47 3-5, 2. There was a good attendance of spectators for the events, nearly seventy spending the weekend tin the mountain.
