Aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm successfully attacked an Italian aerodrome in Sardinia, a Daventry broadcast reports. The raid was made by Swordfish planes during operations in the Western Mediterranean on Thursday and Friday. The attack was pressed home in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire. Direct hits were scored on four hangars, two of which burned fiercely. Four aircraft on the ground were destroyed and the main aerodrome buildings demolished. while other buildings were badly damaged or set on fire. The crew of one British plane is missing. A second Swordfish made a forced landing in Sardinia and the crew were taken prisoner. There were no other casualties. During these operations bombing attacks were made by enemy aircraft on British warships, but no damage was done. One attacking aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire, and probably did not reach its base. Dive-bombers shot down three enemy planes.
