Frosts in Masterton. Frosts were recorded in Masterton over the weekend, one of 9.5 degrees yesterday and another of 6.8 degrees today. Paddy’s Market. With the addition of the proceeds from competitions, etc., the amount raised at the Paddy’s Market held by the Masterton branch of the Red Cross on Friday has now reached £650. The results of the competitions have not yet been completed. Art Union Winners. The winners of the Royal Chance Art Union are four women, all living in Thames, Mesdames W. T. Smith, L. A. Duffield, A. Bruce and Burrell. The nom-de-plume, “We Four” was taken for the reason that these four ladies are often associated around a bridge table. Gifts Acknowledged. The Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and the Sewing Auxiliary wish to thank the following for having forwarded gifts of face cloths, clothing, materials, etc.: —Mesdiames Templer, Plummer. Bible Class Dance. i There was a large attendance at the dance held by the St Matthew’s senior Bible Class in the Parish Hall on Saturday night, when a pleasant evening was by those present. The music was supplied by Mr Arnold Barnes and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr F. Parsons. Supper was served by the committee. Motor Accident. An accident occurred at the intersection of South Road and Kuripuni Street at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon when there was a collision between a car driven by Mr W. O. Hawke, of Colombo Road, and a vehicle driven by Mr H. Hood, of Macara Street. Little damage was done to either car and no one was injured. Police Cook’s Death. The death occurred on Saturday of Robert Arthur McKenzie Meharry, aged 47. cook at the Mt Cook Police "Station. Wellington, who was taken to hospital 61 hours earlier for the treatment of injuries he received when he was knocked down by a motor-car at the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Buckle Street. It is understood the police have traced the driver of the car which is believed to have struck Mr Meharry. Church Parade. In commemoration of the 26th anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War, a parade of returned soldiers was held at St. Matthew's Church last night. All members of the committee of the R.S.A. were present and altogether there were about a hundred returned men present. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich gave a splendid address on the leadership that could and should be given by returned soldiers in the present national emergency.. Catholic Club Team. The following will represent the Masterton Catholic Club in a tabk tennis match against the Post Office Club in the Post Office Club’s Social Room tomorrow night commencing at 7.30 o’clock: —Misses J. Gleeson. K. Wickens, B. Roily, Messrs P. Greenlees, R. Gleeson, P. Beals, J. McGrath. E. Jaques, J. MacDonald, J. Sutherland, T. Apa and M. Doyle. Any player unable to attend is asked to notify the president immediately. Milk for Schools. The scheme for supplying milk to the children attending the principal schools of the Wairarapa is reported to be working well. When the scheme was put into operation each child was supplied with a pint of milk but as the result of experience gained this quantity has been reduced to half a pint, as it was found that a pint was too much for the average child and there was a certain amount of waste. lAt present there is a shortage of milk in the Dannevirke district, from which area the school supplies are drawn, and temporary rationing has been necessary. f Victoria College won the annual IJoynt Scroll debating contest in Wellington on Saturday, against teams ! from the three other university colleges and Massey and Lincoln Agricultural Colleges. The Director of Education, Dr C. E. Beeby. Mr W. J. Sim, K.C., and Mr F. H. Bass judged the contest. Mr Beeby announced the decision of the judges, awarding Victoria College 169 points, Otago University College 167. Canterbury College 150, and placing Auckland University College and Lincoln College next in order, equal, and Massey College last. He said the best speeches in order of merit were those of Mr P. J. Sheehan. Victoria College, Mr H. L. Gibson. Otago, and Mr K. W. Orchiston, Lincoln,
