TAXATION AT SOURCE
COMPULSORY COLLECTION. FEDERAL TREASURER’S DECISION. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY. August 2. The Brisbane correspondent of the "Sydney Morning Herald” says that the Federal Treasurer. Mr Spender, has decided to introduce a compulsory system of collecting Federal taxation by instalments at the source, on similar lines to that which has been adopted in Britain. Mr Spender decided to take this action to case the burden that must fall on all classes of taxpayers as a result of the huge increases that have already been made on taxation and others that must inevitably follow. It is understood that the new scheme will be introduced at the beginning of next year and that a scheme will be evolved to deduct monthly onetwelfth of the estimated annual tax of the taxpayer.
