LATE MISS MUNRO
FUNERAL LARGELY ATTENDED. The esteem and respect in which the late Miss Isabella Munro was held by the community generally were testified yesterday by the large and representative attendance of mourners at her funeral. Many old pupils of Masterton Central School were present. A service was held at Knox Church, conducted by the Rev* David McNeur. Mr E. F. Wilson, who presided at the organ, played hymns and laments. Pipers L. Pither and J. McKenzie played Highland laments from the church to Dixon Street and again from the cemetery gates to the graveside. Among the profusion of floral tributes were wreaths from the St Andrew Society, Women Teachers’ Association and the Red Star Football Club. Messrs Duncan McGregor, H. M. Boddington, R. McKenzie, M. H. McKenzie, W. James and P. Gibbons acted as pall-bearers.
It is of interest to recall that the late Miss Munro took a leading part some years ago in organising and collecting funds for the erection of a brass tablet in Masterton Hospital in memory of Miss Selina Sutherland and in recognition of her services as first nurse in the Wairarapa.
