HUGE BRITISH PURCHASES IN AMERICA SOME 2.800 AEROPLANES DELIVERED. ELEVEN THOUSAND MORE ORDERED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 10.15 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO. July 31. The British Purchasing Commissioner, Mr Beale, addressing a foreign trade conference, said a direct attack was necessary to defeat Germany and added that-British purchases, including French contracts taken over, totalled 1.800.000.000 dollars. Some 2,800 planes had been delivered and 11.000 more ordered. also between 40.000 and 50,000 tons of steel were being purchased monthly.
