R.A.F. OFFENSIVE
CONTINUED BY DAY & NIGHT MUCH DAMAGE DONE IN ENEMY TERRITORY. ATTACK ON NAVAL BASE AT EMDEN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY. July 31. An Air Ministry communique states: “R.A.F. bombers carried out daylight attacks throughout yesterday on military objectives in Northern France and in Holland. Damage was done to d’dings at Ostend, to dispersed aircraft on the aerodrome of Querqueville, near Cherbourg, and to hangars and other aircraft at St. Ingelbert and Boulogne. “In the course of reconnaissance and escort duties aircraft of the Coastal Command attacked gun emplacements on the Norwegian coast and a supply ship off Haugesund, north of Stavanger. “The naval base at Emden was mso ■'attacked. One of our aircraft is missing. “Night operations were curtailed owing to bad weather, but attacks were made on oil refineries at Homburg, in the Ruhr and on Monheim, near Dusseldorf, on the goods yard at Soest and on aerodromes at Duisberg, Antwerp and Courtrai. No aircraft were lost in these night operations.
