BRITISH BOMBING ATTACKS CONTINUED IN ADVERSE WEATHER. MANY OBJECTIVES REACHED. Day and night attacks have been made by the R.A.F. on military objectives in Germany. Holland and Northern France. Daventry reports. Railway sidings, several aerodromes and the naval base at Emden were bombed. One British machine was lost. The weather was bad for night operations, but oil refineries, goods yards and aerodromes were attacked without loss. Coastal Command aircraft attacked gun emplacements on the Norwegian coast and a large supply ship oil' Stavanger. RAIDER PURSUED OFF BRITISH SOUTH-EAST COAST. (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) - LONDON, July 31. Spitfires and Hurricanes went up when a German plane attacked shipping off the south-east coast of England. Bomb explosions were heard inland and the raider disappeared. GERMAN CLAIMS (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) BERLIN, July 31. A communique states: “Our air arm on Tuesday night bombed the harbours of Swansea and Plymouth and an aeroplane factory at Filton. "Only a few British planes raided West Germany. No material damage was done and no casualties were sustained. Our fighters shot down two of the raiders. “It is known that 21 British planes were shot down on Monday.” RAIDERS DRIVEN OFF GOOD WORK BY BRITISH FIGHTERS. ENEMY FORMATIONS BROKEN UP. (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 31. A German plane flying over a southeast area dropped four bombs near houses, setting lire to one and damaging others. Two people were taken to hospital. The inhabitants of a south-west town went to their shelters three limes during the night. British fighters were active and no bombs were dropped. When waves of bombers attempted to penetrate inland, across the Welsh coast, their formations were broken up and bombs fell in the sea and near a lifeboat station. There were no casualties.
