FAT STOCK SELLS WELL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 31. Slightly larger entries and the maintenance of good quality led to sound sales for all classes of fat stock offered at Addington today. Fat sheep showed another improvement. There was a steadying in store sheep values, though the cattle market was a shade firmer. The fat sheep entry of 4000 head met keen buying in anticipation of the holiday needs for race week. An improvement of about 2s a head was recorded. Prime heavy wethers sold at 42s to 465. with the tops selling at 48s to 55s lOd. Prime mediumweights realised 37s 6d to 41s, and ordinary sorts 31s to 365. Best ewes made 40s to 49s lOd, prime heavy sorts 34s to 375, and good, medium sorts 28s 6d to 335. The store sheep entry was nearly double that of last week, comprising about 1600 head. The bulk was good ewes, but the increased supply caused an easing of about 2s a head.
The quality of the fat cattle offered was again good, and a firm sale resulted for the yarding of 500 head. Best beef made to 50s a 1001 b, medium quality 435, and inferior from 37s 6d downward. Prime steers sold at £l6 to £l7 15s. with the tops realising £23 7s 6d. Mediumweights made £l4 to £l5 15s. Thezitest heifers made £lB, with other
good lines selling at from £ll to £l3. Prime cows made to £lO 15s, with extra good pens selling at £l5 17s 6d. Ordinary sorts sold at £6 15s to £8 10s. Porkers were again in short supply, and there was further firming in values. Choppers also met with a keen sale. The average price a pound for porkers was BAd to 9'd and for baconers 7Ad to B,)d.
