SUNDAY SCHOOL

ST. MATTHEW’S ANNUAL CONCERT. PRESENTATION OF BADGES. The annual concert of St. Matthew's Sunday School was presented in the Parish Hall last evening before a large and appreciative audience. The concert began with the traditional St. Matthew’s Opening Chorus, then the choir rendered some items. A pianoforte trio was given by Peggy Bubbers. Yvonne Burridge and Pete Downes. The chief portion of the programme was composed of six plays by pupils of the Sunday School. The junior girls were seen in amusing form in an elfish scene. There were two scriptural plays based on the life of King Saul of Israel and David, these were very well received. Then the intermediate pupils gave a delightful performance of a play dealing with the intricacies of life in the days of the pioneer. The senior girls were seen to advantage in a musical farce. The concert ended on a truly patriotic note, the play, which was specially written for the occasion, interpreting the spirit of England. Before the closing item the Vicar, the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, thanked the pupils and teachers for their delightful concert and the parents and friends for encouraging them in such large numbers. The Archdeacon took the opportunity of presenting a Master Builders' Badge for the new Cathedra’ in Wellington, to Jimmy Wagg, who becomes the first Master Builder of St. Matthew's Sunday School.. Maire Heath was given her Foreman's Badge and Jocelyn Heath became a Builder. Miss Colquhoun was one of the guests oi honour at the concert and the Archdeacon, on behalf of the Sunday School, presented her with a gift as a token of respect for her long association as a teacher in the school. Miss Grace Gaudin was also a recipient of a gift from the Sunday School in appreciation of all she had done as a teacher during her stay in Masterton.
