NAZI LOSSES
IN DOVER AIR BATTLE ESTIMATED UNOFFICIALLY AT 25 PLANES. CASUALTIES IN BRITISH TOWNS. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 30. It is unofficially estimated at Dover that 25 enemy planes were destroyed in the air battle on Monday. When bombs were dropped in southeast England, houses on the two sides of a narrow street were demolished, four on one side and three on the other. ,A number of people were killed. An East Anglian town was bombed in the early morning and a proportion of the casualties were fatal. Some property was damaged. BOMBER SHOT DOWN OFF COAST OF SCOTLAND. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.13 a.m.) RUGBY, July 30. An Air Ministry communique states that an enemy bomber was shot down off the north-east coast of Scotland, shortly after noon today, by R.A.F. fighters. AUXILIARY YACHT SUNK BY ENEMY AIR ATTACK. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.13 a.m.) RUGBY, July 30. An Admiralty communique states that the auxiliary patrol yacht Gulzar was sunk yesterday as the result of enemy air attack. There was no loss of life. DENIAL & CLAIMS GERMAN STORY OF DOVER BATTLE. (Received This Day. 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, July 30. A German communique asserts: “We only lost three planes at Dover yesterday,” and claims that the Germans have shot down 12 Spitfires, three Hurricanes and sank four vessels, totalling 32,000 tons. The communique adds: “In another engagement aircraft sank a cruiser and a merchantman and damaged another merchantman.”
