CLEARING SALt. GOOD AVERAGE FOR HERD OF COWS. Messrs Dalgety and Company Limited report having held a very successful clearing sale of dairy cows at the Eketahuna saleyards yesterday. The sale was conducted on behalf of Mr R. S. Hodder. Atea, his lease having expired. The cows, which were Freisian and Freisian cross, were not in good condition, and the majority of them (to meet the extreme weather conditions of the district from which they came) were due to calve in September ana October. Bidding from tile outset was spirited and purchases were well distributed among a large number ot farmers from local districts. The herd of cows made a good average of £IC 8s per head. Young cows (due late August) made from £l2. £l3 5s to £l4. September calvers, £lO 5s to £ll 15s and odd cows due October, and as late as November, from £7 15s to £9 ss. The springing neifers also met with a ready sale and any heifers showing quality made from £lO to £l2 10s. Late backward calvers realised £7 10s to £B. A three-year pedigree Freisian bull fell to a bid of 17 gns. Tile firm also offered an outside entry of cows on behalf of Mrs Clayworth, Alfredton, and these also commanded spirited competition, selling at from £8 10s. £lO. £ll 7s (id to £l2.
