ALFREDTON
THE LATE MRS HARTLEY (“Times-Age” Special.) The late Mrs Hartley, whose death occurred at Pahiatua on Saturday, was born at Balclutha 67 years ago, being the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J. McGuinness. She married the late Mr Charles Henry Hartley and the couple came to the Carterton district to live, and took up farming. Later they went to Masterton, finally settling in Alfredton some twenty-five years ago. Mrs Hartley took over the boarding house here, and right until the time’ of her death took an active part in its management, although a daughter, Mrs Hood, had recently taken it over. Mrs Hartley found time to give practical assistance to any deserving cause. She is survived by one sister (Mrs Waterson, Carterton), two brothers (Messrs John and Hugh McGuinness), six daughters (Mesdames A. Hanson, Eketahuna; J. Mouldey, Masterton; A. Edmonds, H. Burch, W. Hood, Alfredton, and Boys, Westport), and two sons (Messrs John, Alfredton; and Thomas, Wellington).
