MARTINBOROUGH
PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE MEETING LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Martinborough Patriotic Committee was held last evening in the Featherston County Council Chambers. There were present the Revs F. O. Ball and J. Mann, Messrs R. Feist, W. C. Pryor, C. Michell. D. Green. W. J. Knell, I. Donald, H. Hardinge. Mr Pryor was appointed chairman and Mr Hardinge hon secretary. Correspondence was read from Zone B. Provincial Patriotic Council, forwarding wool for mittens. The secretary reported that the wool had been handed out for making up. The Martinborough branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association notified the appointment of Mr Knell as representative and the Featherston, County Council of Mr Q. Donald. The Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council acknowledged the receipt of soldiers' parcels. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote stating that the matter of evacuee children was held in abeyance at present, but applications were still to be received. Eight applications for nine children had been dealt with. The local branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association were given permission to hold a raffle, the proceeds to procure requisites for soldiers’ parcels. Mr Knell reported on the proceedings of the Soldiers’ Farewell Committee. It was reported that the ladies’ committee had opened a depot for receiving goods and the distribution of materials for making up. GOLF LADIES’ CLUB. The , best cards in an L.G.U. modal handicap on Saturday were: Mrs Knutson 106-23-83; Mrs Cascley 115-32-83; Miss Harvey 98-12-86.
