BAG-SNATCHING
INCIDENT IN CORNWALL STREET. MASTERTON GIRL ROBBED. A bag-snatching incident occurred in Masterton last evening, as the result ot which a girl lost a bag containing about 5s in money and shorthand books. It appears that Miss Joy Gooder, who lives in the upper part of Cornwall Street, was cycling home at about 6 o’clock. When proceeding up Cornwall Street she noticed, after passing the College gates, the sound of another bicycle following her. She slowed down on approaching the Pownall Street intersection and a little further along she again slowed down to allow the cyclist behind her to pass, before turning in to her home. As the cyclist, a boy, was passing her he caught hold of her bag. Miss Gooder held on to it for a while and was more or less pulled along. The bag fell to the road and was picked up by the boy, who made off along Pownall Street. At first Miss Gooder thought it was someone having a joke with her.
