RAILWAY TRAGEDY
MAN RUN OVER BY TRAIN ACCIDENT NEAR LEVIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ July 28. When he fell from the WellingtonPalmerston North passenger train just north of Levin last night. Mr J. Hepburn. carpenter, a married man living in Ashhurst, was run over and killed. It is not known how the accident occurred. Mr Hepburn had been visiting Wellington for his'brother's funeral. A Levin resident, who had travelled from Wellington by the train, discovered the body, 300 yards north of the station, when walking along the railroad track at about 8.20 p.m. Shortly before the discovery was made the train had gone by after stopping a few minutes at Levin. Dr S. J. Thomps’on, Levin, was communicated with and the Levin police were also advised immediately. It was thought that Mr Hepburn may have been standing on the platform when he lost his footing. Mr Hepburn was travelling to Palerston North to visit his son, DeputySuperintendent J. Hepburn, of the Palmreston North Fire Brigade. As a mark of respect the fla'g at the fire station was flown at half-mast today.
