BADMINTON

PAHIATUA V. ST. MATTHEW’S MATCH ON SATURDAY NIGHT. WIN FOR HOME TEAM. A very pleasant time was spent at Pahiatua on Saturday night when members of the St Matthew s Badmin-. ton Club paid a return visit to the Pahiatua Club. The visitors were most hospitably entertained. The games were evenly contested and the standard of play was very high. As Pahiatua had three courts the matches were put through expeditiously and enabled singles matches to be played. When the St Matthew's players became used to the lighting arrangements there was a notable improvement in their play. Supper was provided by the ladies of the Pahiatua Club. On behalf of the visitors Mr W. L. Harrington expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended to them, to which the president of the Pahiatua Club responded. Considerable interest was taken in the match and there was a large attendance. In the Pahiatua tea T. Tuohy showed. very impressive form. His play was well above the average, and he played a very scientific game. He went particularly well in his singles, combined and men's doubles. Partnered by D. O’Brien the pair extended Ninnes and Carle to the fullest, although the latter combination won. Taken all through the rest of the matches were of a high standard, and it was rather unfortunate that St Matthew’s was not able to send up a full team, although members of the Pahiatua Club filled the breach.
