CARTERTON SALE
SHEEP AND CATTLE IN DEMAND. PIGS MAKE LATE RATES. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co Ltd., report as follows on their weekly sale at Carterton yesterday:-—There was a good entry of all classes of stock which attracted a big attendance. Sheep sold very well, there being a strong enquiry for both store and fat sheep. Fat and store cattle were also in demand, and spring cows and heifers were keenly sought after. Two dairy herds were offered and made good prices. Pigs sold at late rates. Quotations: — Sheep: Heavy fat wethers, 32s to 365; fat wethers, 26s 7d to 30s lOd; fat hoggets, 25s to 29s 6d; fat ewes, 21s 3d, 22s 6d, to 24s to 25s 6d; light fat ewes, 17s, 17s 6d to 18s 6d; small wr hoggets, to 14s; m.a. ewes r.w. S.D. ram, 23s 3d, 25s 6d. 27s 2d to 27s lOd.
Cattle: Cows on drop. £lO to £l2 10s; August calvers, £ll to £l4 15s; September calvers. £8 to £l2 10s; springing heifers, £8 10s to £ll 2s 6d; fat cows. £6 to £8 2s 6d; forward cows. £3 16s to £4 15s; store cows, £2 12s to £3 10s; yearling Jersey cross heifers, to £4 2s; empty 2-year heifers, to £4 15s; Jersey bulls, to £B. Pigs: Weaners, small, 17s to 21s; ditto medium, 22s to 245; ditto, good, 25s to 28s; slips, 26s to 30s; store pigs, 31s to 37s 6d; light porkers, £2 Is to £2 ss; porkers, £2 12s to £2 16s; baconers, to £3 9s; sows to farrow, £4 15s to £6 12s 6d.
