FEATHERSTON

PLUNKET SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Plunket Society the election of officers resulted as follows: President. Mrs H. Blundell:, vice-presidents. Mesdames R. W. Matthews, W. B. Martin; hon secretary and treasurer, Mrs Q. Donald; hon auditor. Mr J. G. McKenzie; committee, five delegates from each centre; car committee, Messrs N. C. C. Shepherd, W. H. Martin, K. Arthur, Mrs Q. Donald. Central committee meetings are to be held every six months. Letters of appreciation are to be sent to Nurse Twentyman, Mr J. G. McKenzie and Mr L. A. Campbell. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Nurse Twentyman submitted the following report for the past year, the figures for 1939 being given in parentheses: New cases 87 (77); visits to office, adults. 1333 (1202); visits to office, babies, 1264 (1132); visits to office, children. 107 (151); total. 2704 (2485). Visits to homes, 1125 (1429); telephone calls, 618 (474); cases on books since work began. 1588 (1501); miles travelled in car, 6380 (6290).

At a meeting of the Martinborough and Featherston central committee there were present: Mesdames H. Blundell (in the chair), W. B. Martin, Griffith, Mason, Perry, Hewitt, Tyler, Kershaw, Campbell, McLeod, Sievers, Morison, Hutton, Roper, G. Pain, W. H. Martin, H. Bloxam, J. G. McKenzie. G. Yule, R. Barton, Roy Donald and Q. Donald. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. W. Matthews, Moore, Nann and McConnell. A credit balance of £97 was reported. It was decided to purchase a new motor car. LITERARY INSTITUTE MR R. W.’ MATTHEWS RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The annual meeting of the Literary Institute was held in the Racing Club Rooms yesterday afternoon, Mr Arch. Clark presiding. Apologies for absence were reecived from Messrs R. W. Matthews. F. Hayes, C. C. Kenward, M. B. Tait. The annual report was read and adopted. It was decided to spend £25 on the purchase of new books. Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Clapshaw (librarian) are to buy the books. Mr R. W. Matthews was re-elected chairman. The old committee was reelected with the addition of Mr A. S. Kilsby" and Miss Goodrick. Mr N. Buchanan, of the Central Library Service, was present by invitation and answered a number of questions. Personal. Mr and Mrs R. G. McKenzie have returned to their home in Ballance.
