The resignation of M. Jules Avenol as Secretary-General of the League of Nations operates on August 31. after which a committee of three will handle League affairs. M. Avenol's telegram states that the duties remaining to the League no longer justify the maintenance of a high political direction. He is considering measures to ensure that administrative work will continue.
