PASSAGE OF ESTIMATES. PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT PRESENTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Fourteen classes of main Estimates, representing an aggregate expenditure of were discussed and passed by 'the House of Representatives yesterday. With the disposal of these, all but one of the classes of Consolidated Fund Estimates subject to annual appropriation by Parliament have been approved. Consideration of the votes has so far occupied three days, which is approximately half the usual time required for the Estimates. The largest individual item was that of £8,633,909 for the Working Railway Account. Most of the afternoon was taken up with discussion on this vote and that of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity. The following votes were passed:— Department of Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity, £521,615; Working Railways Account, £B,633,909; Iron and Steel Industry Account, £10,000; Printing and Stationery Department, £300,000; Mines Department, £250,000; State Coal Mines Account, £442,839; Department of External Affairs, £470,000; Native Trustee’s Account. £16,670; Department of Lands and Survey, £400,000; Lands for Settlement Account, £399,900; State Forest Account, £500,000; Marine Department, £172,000; Police Department, £645,000. Numerous departmental reports, including the Public Works Statement, were presented. The House rose at midnight till this morning.
