SHEARERS & SHED HANDS DURING COMING SEASON. INCREASE OF 3s FOR MACHINE SHEARING (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A special committee under the Shearers and Shed Hands Award has fixed the following rates of pay for the coming season: Shearing by machine, not less than £1 10s 6d per hundred, with rations. Shearing by hand, not less than £1 13s per hundred, with rations. Where shearers find their own rations an allowance of 4s a day shall be paid. For stud sheep, hogget rams the rate is one and a half times and for other rams double the ordinary rate. Rates of pay for others workers are: —Pressers, £4 10s 6d a week, or 2s s£d an hour. All other shed hands £4 0s 6d a week, or 2s 31d an hour. Cooks, where cooking for 12 men or under, £5 0s 6d, or 19s 3d a day, for less than seven days. Where more than 12, men have to be catered for the rate shall be increased by 2s 6d a week, for each additional man. Where the number exceeds 18, an assistant cook must be employed and for over 28 men the rate is to be fixed by mutual agreement. Cooks’ assistants will receive £4 5s 6d, a week or 16s 2d a day, if for less than seven days. Special rates for work after noon on Saturday are:—Pressers, 2s Old an hour, and shed hands Is lOd an hour.

Last year's rates were: Shearing by machine, not less than £1 7s 6d a hundred, with rations. Shearing by hand, not less than £1 10s a hundred with rations. Pressers £4 Is 6d a week, or 2s 21d an hour. Other shed hands, £3 Ils 6d a week, or 2s Old an hour. Cooks for twelve men or under, £4 Us 6d a week, of 17s 9d per day for less than seven days—2s 6d per week for each additional man to be cooked for. Cooks’ assistants, £3 16s 6d a week or 15s 2d per day for less than seven days.
