SERVICE OVERSEAS
VOLUNTARY ENLISTMENTS IN WAIRARAPA DISTRICT TOTAL 1160. FURTHER MEN BEFORE MEDICAL BOARD. Voluntary enlistments for the Wairarapa district up to Monday last, when that system ended, totalled 1160, and in addition 180 Territorials have been examined by the Medical Board in Master ton. The Medical Board is still occupied with the examination of men who have volunteered, though it is hoped to complete this task next Tuesday. During the closing days of voluntary enlistments, there was a steady stream of men registering at the Masterton Defence Office. All enlistments since June 24, when the adoption of conscription was announced, are for service at home or abroad. This applies equally to those who have enlisted for the special force and the Territorials. Recruits examined for overseas service by the Medical Board on Tuesday and yesterday totalled fifty, the names being as follow: —
