MEAT BOARD FUNCTIONS

QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Information as to what the functions of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board now are was sought by Mr Foi'bes (Opposition, Hurunui) when the estimates of the Meat Industry Account wore being considered. The Minister of Marketing, Mr Nash, said the board had been doing the work it had done in the past, except that it no longer undertook direct negotiations in London. It still had its representatives in London, kept up its activities in the Dominion, took part in all negotiations with the Government. and protected the producers’ interests. Mr Dickie (Opposition. Palea), said he thought that, as the Government had taken such control, the Meat Board would before long become, like the Dairy Board, the fifth wheel in the coach.
