VATICAN POLICY
NO HOPE OF PEACE SETTLEMENT. BETWEEN AXIS AND BRITAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.35 a.m.) VATICAN CITY. July 24. Authoritative Vatican quarters state that the Pope has abandoned all hope of a peace settlement between the Axis and England, following upon the British Government's response to Herr Hitler. According to these circles, feelers which have been made after Herr Hitler's speech through Vatican channels have been negative. The Pope, therefore, is expected to deliver a homily of sorrow shortly, wherein he will exhort the faithful throughout the wcrld to pray for peace as the only solution to terminate the war.
