MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB WEEKLY COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The weekly competitions of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club were held last evening the scores being as follow:— Men's aggregate and Press Cup: J. Finn 100, H. Torry 99. A. Ordish 99, D. Gayfer 99, G. Goodin 99, L. Chew 99, L. Tunnicliffe 99. A. J. King 99, Ross \ Hawker 98. W. Press 98, R. Ordish 97, C. "X J. DeLaccy 96. H. Murrell 96. ’/) Ladies' aggregate and Gladful Cup: Miss A. McPhee 99. Miss Z. Freer 98 Miss Hamer 92. The competition for Messrs Whitcombe and Caldwell's Cup resulted in a tie between Miss Z. Free. H. Torrey and R. Ordish. all of whom have an aggregate of 397. The final will be fired next week. Next week a sweepstake competition will be fired. LABOUR LEAGUE ENJOYABLE DANCE. There was a large attendance at the dance held in the band room under the auspices of the Carterton Women’s Labour League. The proceeds are to be devoted to soldiers’ comforts. Music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra and a much appreciated extra was played by Miss R. Hopkins. Mr J. Mansell made an efficient M.C. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss J. Rzoska and Mr Trangmar, and a statue waltz by Mr Herrick and partner. A competition was won by Miss A. Sunkel. Supper was served by the ladies’ committee consisting of Mesdames Goodin, Green, Benge, Miller, Bradbury and Wright. OBITUARY MR FRED STEVENS. Mr Fred Stevens, a resident of the i Belvedere and Carterton district prac- ' tically since his boyhood days, died in the Greytown Hospital on Monday evening. Quite recently he entered hospital to undergo an operation and failed to recover from the effects of it. Born at Silverstream in 1872, he came to the. Carterton district as a boy with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs Jas Stevens, and resided in the old homestead beyond the Belvedere School and which was subsequently destroyed by fire. The late Mr Fred. Stevens was among the first pupils who attended the Belvedere School, Mr Frazer being the headmaster. Of a family of four sons and three daughters all are dead except Mrs S. Parker (Wellington) and Mrs Prebenson (Shannon). The funeral will take place tomorrow at the Clareville Cemetery at 1 o'clock. GOLF SATURDAY'S COMPETITIONS. The lady members of the Carterton Golf Club will play a club medal and L.G.U. round and for Mrs V. L. Robinson’s trophy on the Clareville links on Saturday. From No 17 tee: E. T. Beaven and Jackson, Munro and Harry, Tankersley and” Harp, Callender and Moody. Theft of Bread Van. A bread delivery van belonging tc' Mr W. S. Steven, of the Premier Bakery was stolen from the shed at the rear of the bakehouse on Monday night. The police were informed and the van was subsequently located at the Lower Hutt. Prior to the taking of the van the Uneda Fruit Co's lorry had been taken from its shed and was found in Pembroke Street without petrol. From there the Borough yard was visited and a lorry was found to have been interfered with, an attempt having been made to take the battery away'. Resident Meets With Accident. Mr Alexander, of South Carterton. met with an accident yesterday, falling and splitting one of his knee caps. Dr W. J. C. Wells was called in and ordered Mr Alexander to the Greytown Hospital.
