Outlining a programme for the modernisation and increase of the French mercantile marine, Admiral Darlan said shipyards in future would concentrate on passenger and cargo motor-ships, with a speed of 20 knots. France would renounce luxury liners like the Normandie. Wealthy persons, wanting to travel quickly, will be obliged to use planes.
