GALLANT SERVICE
EARNS D.F.C. AWARD WELLINGTON AIRMAN’S FINE RECORD. DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY AIRCRAFT. (British Offiicial Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) RUGBY, July 19. The story of a New Zealander’s sustained gallantry is told in the award of the D.F.C. to ActingLieutenant Patrick Geraint Jameson, of Wellington. During the difficult Norwegian operations, Lieutenant Jameson led his flight with great determination, in completely strange country in the Narvik area, discovering and setting on fire two four-engined enemy flyingboats, which were concealed against the almost vertical side of Romsbak Fiord, in a position most difficult to attack. No trace of them was found during a reconnaissance shortly afterwards.
On the following morning. Lieutenant Jameson destroyed a Junkers 88 over Ofot Fiord.
During the previous seven months he had led his flight with skill and determination, both by day and night, often in extremely bad weather conditions, His example has been an inspiration to the rest of the squadron.
