BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED GATHERING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Parkvale Hall was well filled on Saturday night when a “parcel evening” was tendered to Miss N. Renall, whose marriage is shortly to take place. Dancing was indulged in until midnight to music supplied by Mrs V. J Ashton and Mr G. Harding (Masterton). Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Miss M. Oliver. Mr RXReriall was an efficient M.C. Among nomdancers cards were played and the prizes were won by Mr and Mrs D. Adams. At a suitable interval in the proceedings. Mr E. T. Bliss referred to the esteem in which Miss Renall was held by the people of the district and called upon her to accept and open the many useful and valuable parcels. Miss Renall did this amid applause. Private G. Campbell, of Taumata, who obtained leave from the Trentham Camp to attend the gathering, returned thanks on .behalf of his fiancee for the presents and the splendid function given on their behalf. ‘Tor They Are Jolly Good Fellows’” was sung after which supper provided by the ladies of Ihe district was dispensed and enjoyed. Dancing was resumed and the gathering was brought to a conclusion at midnight with the singing of the National Anthe'm. GOLF CARTERTON v. MARTINBOROUGH The Carterton and Martinborough golf teams tried conclusions on Saturday, and the honours were even. The results were ds follow (Carterton players being mentioned first in each case): A team at Martinborough—Steel and Goodin lest to Davy and W. G. Martin, Taverner and Clark lost to Pike and Charles; Whitburn and Harrington lost to S. W. Martin and Barker; Hart and Smart lost to Wall and A. B. Martin. B team at Carterton—Taylor and Brown defeated K. D. Archer and L. Chapman; S. Hill and Lawrence defeated F. P. Duffy and A. F. Harding; (3<j:tofson and Barrett defeated A. C. Caseley and A. O. Pike; Barr and Dwane defeated T. A. Knutson and J. Kershaw. The following were the best scores handed in on Saturday for the L.G.U. medal round, and Mrs Robinson’s trophy:—Mrs Harrington, 88-18-70; Miss Freer, 98-27-71; Miss V. Corlett, 107-36-71; Miss Shankland, 108-36-72; Miss Candy, 91-17-74; Miss Robinson, 104-29-75; Miss McFarlane. 101-23-78; Miss Pointon, 106-28-78; Miss Smart, 98-19-79; Miss I. Corlett, 104-25-79; Miss Lamb, 107-24-83. Boy Scouts. The annual meeting of the Carterton Troop and Boy Scouts will be held in the Scout Den, tonight at 8 o’clock. The business will include the election of officers. A good attendance of parents and the public will be appreciated by the troop. Coal Stolen. A local resident, who put in a stock of coal recently at his house was relieved of practically the lot of it on Thursday night. P. & A. Society. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society is called for Saturday next. The business will include the question of whether the show should be held this year. Social to Bride-to-be. A social will be tendered to Miss Mabel Jensen, daughter of Mr and Mrs Dan Jensen, in the Parkvale Hall tonight.
