ITALIAN CLAIM

“VICTORY” IN EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.10 a.m.) ROME, July 14. Signor Mattei told the Press that Italian airmen had carried out fifty attacks against the British Eastern Mediterranean Fleet since July 7. He claimed that the entire action was an indisputable Italian victory. “Whatever the British may claim,” he said, “the fact that the fleets returned to Alexandria and Gibraltar without reaching their objectives, either our ships or our shores, is proof of the success of Italian aerial and naval action.”
