Brigade Foreman H. Seiwood has resigned from the Petone Fire Brigade after serving 37 years, have joined the brigade in June, 1903. Mrs T. Nelson, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. H. Spackman, Lansdowne, hopes to be able to leave Greytown Hospital at the end of this week.
Mr E. A. Staniforth, of Essex Street, Masterton, is a patient in Glenwood Private Hospital. Mr A. Dawson, of Essex Street, is also undertaking treatment at the hospital. Colonel O. H. Mead has been appointed the officer authorised to convene courts-martial and confirm findings and sentences thereof, according to a notice contained in last night’s Gazette.
Mr S. R, Muff, chairman of directors of the Orari Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., has been re-elected as a director to represent Canterbury and Otago on the New Zealand Producers’ Marketing Association, Ltd. Mr H. G. Hill has been granted a temporary commission in the rank of Flight Lieutenant and appointed bandmaster of the Air Force Band and Direrector of Music to the Air r urce, is stated in the “Gazette.” Flying Officer (honorary). H. Langtry relinquished the appointment of musical director and has been transferred to the retired list.
The appointment of Mr Charles Todd, Wellington, as a member, of the National Patriotic Fund Board was announced yesterday by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr Parry. Mr Todd is to fill the vacancy in the board’s personnel caused by the death of Colonel J. J. Esson. The Minister said Mr Todd had taken a deep personal and practical interest in patriotic work of the Dominion and his services would be of value to the national body in the discharge of its functions. Changes in the staff of the Masterton Post and Telegraph Department were announced by the Postmaster. Mr M. M. Simpson, this morning, who stated that Miss T. N. Breen, who has been supervisor of the local telephone exchange for some time has been transferred on promotion to Nelson. Mr D. Hoskin, who has been employed in the Automatic Exchange for some years has been transferred io the Radio branch. Wellington. Mr Hoskin left Masterton for his new appointment yesterday morning.
