COSY THEATRE
•‘ROSE MARIE.” The final screening of this thrilling triumph of music and romance takes place this evening. Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald have never been seen or heard to greater advantage. “LEGION OF LOST FLYERS.” Flyers blazing an air trail over the Alaskan wilderness are the central figures in Universal’s new Richard ArlenAndy Devine co-starring action drama. “Legion of Lost Flyers,” coming tomorrow to the Cosy Theatre. The new team, fast winning favour in a series of action films, offers two more adventurous characterisations, Arlen as an ace pilot and Andy as a mechanic at an Alaskan airport. The most important supporting cast yet lined up for the series includes Anne Nagel, William Lundigan, Ona Munson, Theodor Von Eltz, Guinn “Big Boy” Williams, Jack Carson, Jerry Marlowe. Leon Ames, Leon Belasco, and others. Beginning in a fast-moving manner, the story opens with a fatal air crash for which Arlen is falsely blamed. He follows the real culprit to Alaska, where a troupe of flyers has been banded together to battle with the elements and fly a commercial route. There Arlen is branded "coward” and is forced to fight resentment on the part of his flying mates while trying to clear his name. A romance between Arlen and Miss Nagel also complicates the dramatic situation. Warm with the richness‘of humanity, deep with the poignant drama of self sacrifice and loyalty, and alive with sharply etched human characters, Republic’s “The Defense Rests.” is the associate feature. This picture did not come from Hollywood heralded as a million dollar masterpiece. Yet it is truly a contribution to humanity, a film which richly deserves the highest praise, for it will live in the memory, in the hearts of all who see it. Edward Ellis plays Link Boggs, and gives a memorable performance. Anita Louise as Honey, and Robert Baldwin fill the romantic leads, capably. A top supporting cast performs brilliantly. Margaret Hamilton (remember he) 1 as the Wicked Witch in “The Wizard of Oz") and Clem Bevans supply the laughs: Harold Huber. Henry Kolker, Willard Robertson and Beverly Roberts are splendid. Also screening are the current chapters of the two great serials, “The Lone Ranger Rides Again” and “Oregon Trail.”
