MR SULLIVAN’S MISSION INSPECTION OF INDUSTRIES IN AUSTRALIA. INTEREST IN SHALE WORKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day. 9.10 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. Mr D. G. Sullivan (New Zealand Minister of Supply) late last night,, stated that he has had conferences with ministers, business men and government officials. He has visited factories and has been fully occupied since his arrival in Sydney on Saturday. He has had further conferences with the Australian Prime Minister, also the Treasurer, Mr Spender, and the Premier of New South Wales, Mr Mair, and has inspected various industries in operation, including the Small Arms Factory at Lithgow, where rifles and machine-guns are manufactured. He was shown over a new plant at Glen Davis (Newnes), where oil is being extracted from shale. This visit of inspection, he stated, had been of real value, because of the New Zealand shale deposits. Mr Sullivan leaves for Brisbane tomorrow and returns here on Sunday. He will then go to Newcastle to inspect the steel works and subsidiary industries.
